Societa Agricola Storica Rio Storto
Società Agricola Storica Rio Storto has roots deep in ancient lands.
Founded before 1930 by Pietro Ferro, it is today run by the fourth generation. This company gets its name from Rio Storto (literally "crooked river”), a trickle of pure spring water just a stone’s throw from the farm, which provides all the irrigation water needed for the Ferro family fields. Today Azienda Agricola Rio Storto produces genuine simple food, the result of their healthy animals, farmed fields and a short supply chain that is controlled at every stage. Headed by Lucia Ferro and her seven grandchildren who, with their hard work, team an ancient family tradition with a youthful innovative outlook, putting the quality of their products always in first place.
The fields are worked using traditional methods, combined with new technologies and respecting the different cycles of nature. They produce zero-food-mile quality milk and meat, fundamental ingredients for natural preservative-free cured meat and cheese. Technological innovation ensures the best animal welfare, reduces the use of antibiotics and improves the quality of the milk.
Azienda Agricola Rio Storto cows are fed on fodder grown on the farm, in this way guaranteeing high quality milk that is then used to make a vast selection of fresh dairy produce and mild to mature cheeses. Attention to each cheese makes them all unique and the time, precision, care and craftsmanship skills involved in their ageing process means our line of cheeses is appreciated and recognised for its artisan character, the result of manual labour and totally without preservatives.
